For the year 2009 the Town of Oakboro experienced sanitary sewer overflows (SSO’s) totaling 715,000 gallons at the McCoy Creek Pump Station due to “severe natural conditions or equipment failure i.e. heavy rain (Monthly SSO’s totals shown above).  In late 2007 the Town began a “corrective action plan” to reduce inflow and infiltration (I/I) into Town sewer collection system which consisted of sewer line replacement and limited point repairs in an effort to further reduce or eliminate SSO’s. The Town has recently installed a equalization basin (EQ) to further reduce or eliminate future overflow’s. Presently, the Town is in the process of upgrading the McCoy Creek Pump Station and installing a new parallel forced main to the treatment plant. Construction should begin within the next 6 months.

All SSO’s are reported to the State of North Carolina (DENR) Division of Water Quality, Mooresville Regional Office as required in “The Clean Water Act”.  The Town was assessed civil penalties of $10,927.28 for SSO violations.

All overflows were cleaned up in accordance with NC State guidelines.
